gear oil for windshield wiper tran

Hi,
I am rebuilding the electric windshield wiper motor unit on my 1940 studebaker commander. The motors manual says the case should be three quarter filled with gear lubricant. What i cleaned up looked like dried up wheel bearing grease. What type of gear lubricant should I replace it with??

I usually just use Mobil 1 synthetic grease for no other reason than it's in my grease gun. (only grease I can get at the parts store in a tube that I feel comfortable with using in wheel bearings - that way I can do the whole car with only one grease gun)
