  • Tranny Fluid or Oil ?

The shop manual and owners manual for my 51 Champion with Automatic Drive tranny calls for 10W motor oil. I want to replace the filter/screen an change the fluid/oil? Can I or should I use transmision fluid rather than 10W motor oil? If so which type of tranny fluid should be used?

Either the current iteration of Dexron or else Type F (if you like firmer shifts) should be fine. The reason they recommend light motor oil is that at the time that manual was printed, there was no dedicated automatic transmission fluid available!
