  • Wiper motor wires

Gang - I bought a new 12v Prestolite wiper motor from Dennis when I was in SB a few weeks ago, and want to use it in my 12v '51 coupe. I'm trying to use the 4 spade connector wiper switch from a '60 dash, and can't seem to find a manual that explains where the red, blue, yellow and black wires go from the motor assembly. (I believe it's for a '63 or '64 application, originally)
I assumed the red was 'hot' and black was ground. I don't think so. Anybody know fer sure? Thanks!

I found the info in the '65 shop manual supplement.
Wire 38A (blue) Wiper motor park switch to wiper switch A terminal
Wire 38B (black) wiper motor park switch to wiper switch B terminal
Wire 39A (yellow) wiper motor low speed armature to wiper switch D terminal
Wire 39B (red) wiper motor high speed armature to wiper switch C terminal

The earlier '59-'64 shop manual doesn't list these wires and colors.

    Good luck, Tom!

TOM- I WENT THROUGH THE SAME PROCESS ON MY '52 COMMANDER LAST YEAR. I ENDED UP REUSING THE ORIGINAL SWITCH, BUT HAD TO RE-SOLDER THE GROUND POST. THE SWITCH "GROUNDED" THE CONNECTION, WHEREAS LATER SWITCHES CLOSED THE CONNECTION TO THE "HOT" LEAD. I THINK A LATER 12V TOP OF DASH SWITCH MAY FIT, HOWEVER I COULDN'T FIND AN AFTER-MARKET 2SPEED SWITCH THAT WOULD FIT UP IN THERE. HENCE NOW I HAVE 12V, BUT SINGLE SPEED, WIPERS!
