  • how to modify oil pan..later engine into a '49?

    Can anyone tell me how to modify an oil pan to put a later flathead six into my 49?

    Thanks

    I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say if it's a 170cu.in. engine, all it should take is swapping the oil pan, pick-up tube and the filler/dipstick tube location. Swapping the old pan and stuff to the newer engine that is.[:I]

    If you're putting in a 185cu.in. ('55 thru '58), better ask Anne Goodman to elaborate for you.[}] She and her "crew" just put a 185 in her '49 and it took some surgery to the oil pan to make it fit that longer stroke engine.[B)]

      The Green oil pan came with the 1955 185 engine. The other pan is off of the 1949 170 engine. Had to cut the front and rear off of each pan and weld back together. Also had to remanufactur the front motor mount. also had to cut off about 1/4 inch off of the fan blade. Any questions just ask.

          What engine are you installing? A 185? And you can't use the pan that came with it because it hits your steering links?

            So Carl What size engine were you thinking about putting in your Stude. Also is yours a champion or commander 2 door 4 door Starlight coupe, Business coupe? I can explain all of the details for you on our engine exchange and associated alterations. Lots of things we didn't know before. It was a fun project well worth the effort. Let me know Thanks Anne

              Anne;
              I have a 49 Conv & a 50 bus. coupe.
              I was thinking of puting a 185 into the conv.
