Lot cheaper to buy a used factory unit and install it. $400-$500 on ebay now and then.

I'M KINDA INTERESTED IN DOING THAT MYSELF. VINTAGE AIR HAS A LOT OF COMPACT UNITS THAT LOOK LIKE THEY WOULD WORK PRETTY GOOD. THE OWNERS HAVE A CUSTOM '53, SO THEY LIKE STUDES!

Yea, he's got the "Cool 200" street rod based on a 53 body, but his kits are $1200 or so. Well worth the money for the right car.

Being located in Central Texas, not far from the Vintage Air's home base, I can really feel the need for air conditioning. I haven't had my truck very long, but A/C is on the list to install before next June. A local mechanic I know prefers to get his "vintage" air conditioning components from a place called Hot Rod Air, which also happens to be located in this <s>infernal</s>, um, very sunny [8D] region. He told me he gets much more polite customer service from the guys at Hot Rod Air www.hotrodair.com. Why not check with both of them?

Vintage air does make a bracket and pulley kit for the Stude V8, mine is on order. You can go alacarte if you want. I am using a Stude evaporator and Vintage Air for the rest.
