  • Dual Point

I just looked in my avanti distributor and found one set of points backed way off so it is running on one point.
also are the dual point the same as the single?
while moveing points, and feeler guage it seams only one point
opens at a time, since the are in parallel it wont run with both set
    by the feeler guage.
do I have the wrong points installed I got the car this way?
also is there a better way to set other than the book?
    thanks in advance.

If you have the Prestolite dual point in your Avanti if you look from the top you will see that one set of points will open first then when the first set is a about 1/3 the second set opens, when the first set closes the second set is still open and stays open a little longer to lengthen the dwell. If you think logic they are connected OR.

There is a Petronix unit for the Dual Point Prestolite unit that will make life easier than trying to mess with the 2 points.
