  • Will a GM distributor work on a Studebaker V8??

I was wondering since Studebaker used a GM window distributor for a few years if a HEI type would drop in and run??? I haven't heard anything about it not working. Would it?

nope. the guts of the Delco dist. are similar to GM but the main housing and shaft is different.

Dave Thibeault is supposedly working on a new hi-po dist. for Studes, and he used to (still does?) sell Prestolites converted to use Chrysler electronic guts. I have one of those in my '55 and it works well.

Dave Levesque at Steel Tech Solutions used to make a converted HEI to fit Studebakers but from what he said recently has stopped making them, especially since you can get the Pertronix unit as a drop in points replacement for the Delco/Stude distributors, and dual point Prestolites.
