  • gas gauge

    The gas gauge on my '57 Hawk does not read acurately. Never goes past 3/4 or lower than 1/4. Sound like the sending unit? Thanks.

    It could be or it could be the gage. Tough to tell. After my recent trials with the gage & sender in my 58, I'm not sure you CAN get an accurate reading!
    With a new sender and a new gage, I managed (after much fiddling) to get fairly accurate readings when I had the tank and the gage on a bench. Once installed in the car (WITH a ground wire added from sender body to car body, no less) the readings make no sense at all!
    For now, I'm addressing other facets of the car. Eventually, I'll play with the gas gage again. Someday.[}]
