  • 3 heater hoses

    My 62 gt has heater coil under the pass seat, and a coil inside the dash. One heater hose goes from the water pump to the temp valve.
    temp valve to a tee to both coils, return has a tee from both coils and then to the water manifold.
    I rebuilt a 289 from another 62 hawk, for mine.
    The rebuilt engine has 3 hose ports two on the water manifold and
    a hose port on the pass back of the block.
    how should the heater hoses be ran?
    What the third hose for on the block as I don't seam to be able to remove it.

    Not a clue! got a pic? Would be curious to see it.

    BTW the shop manual gives hose lengths; is it just me or if you follow the lengths in the manual do you always end up cutting off 3-4" from several hoses when you actually install them in the car?

      Steve - exactly WHERE "on the back of the block" is this third outlet???

      BTW, the "heater coil" under the dash is strictly for the defrosters. The one under the seat provides cabin heat. Sounds like the hoses are hooked up correctly but that thrid port is something someone's added.[:0]

        The outlet at the back of the passenger side head should be blocked off with a plate for a stock installation. Or if you prefer you can us it as your heat source and block off the top water manifold outlet. Either way , you work with only two hoses. I think some cars/trucks used the outlet at the back of the head for quicker heat or was standard in some truck applications.

          The third hose port is in the 3/8" pipe plug would be low on the block about 4" ahead of the bellhouseing just behind the dip sitck tube but up in the block.
          Just reading your replies I now wonder if someone installed a tank type block heater.
          I shall put a short hose and plug it off?

          by the way is that defroster air hose avaible somewhere

            That is your block drain, supposed to just have a pipe plug from the factory. Or you could get slick and put a petcock in there for easier annual flushing

              Accessible petcocks are a great idea, especially in the rear of the block; standard item prior to the forties but seldom actuated. Like the drain at the bottom of my hotwater heater.
