  • 53 repro. grill?

On another Studebaker site a fellow commented that someone is possibly reproducing grill parts for the 53 Studebaker, maybe in fiberglass. Has anyone heard about this?

Dave Thibeault or someone close to him was working on redoing the shells, but those were going to be brass, not 'glass. I've seen a pair of raw castings on his table at several meets now.

I'm not aware of any 'glass ones, but try these guys

    good luck

It was probably my comments about making fibreglass grille shells and bars. 55 grille parts for that matter too! There's GOTTA be a demand for them. Lotsa guys would rather paint them than pay the price of rechroming. If there were glass ones, that would relieve the pressure on the ever thinning supply of metal ones for folks that want chrome pieces. Alas, no one has stepped up to make them outta glass so far as I know.
As Nate says, Dave T-bow makes (actualy - HAD MADE - a limited run) some brass 53 grille shells - no bars. He gets $400 for a pair unchromed and twice that if their chromed! Further, he'll tell you that they may not fit like a glove simply because there's no guarantee that the sheet metal your gonna fit them to hasn't been tweaked some in the last 50 years.[}]

Here is the link guys. They don't do the grills separately but as a whole front panel. I had one a while back and it was nicely made. -Will
