  • transmission fluid and crank/oil

I just purchased a 1955 President. What are the oil needs, transmission, rearend, crank case, etc. What is the point gap? Where does one get a service book?

I have used Redline Heavy Shockproof gear oil in my rear on Ted Harbit's recommendation. I believe that he also uses it in his 4-speed, but I used Redline MT-90 because I bought the gear oil before talking to him. MT-90 probably provides better shift quality at the expense of ultimate shock load protection.

Since you have a President, you probably have either a 3-speed/OD or a DG-250. The DG will be happy on either Dexron or Type F as JDP says (Type F will give you firmer shifts,) for the 3/OD I can't offer a recommendation, the MT-90 probably doesn't have the right friction characteristics for the OD. I believe a GL-1 was actually the factory fill.

They can mix just fine, they are similar formulas just have different friction characteristics (Type F helps the bands "grab" a little better)
