  • Rod Information Needed

The 59 to 64 shop manual gives no dimensional specs for resizing the big end of V8 rods. This is important information to those who are installing the ARP bolts and re-doing rods for high performance configurations. I'm not the only fella who needs this info.. Anybody have the specs.? Already tried Ted and Bob Palma.....

    Here's what the manual has,

    Rod Journal diameter (inches): 1.99925 - 2.00025
    Bearing clearance (inches): .0005 - .00215
    Rod End Play (inches): .007 - .012
Rod Bolt Tension 52 - 54 Ft. Pounds

No mention of bolt size.. Although it gives these clearances, we need the inside dia. spec for the big end of rod.

    Thanks in advance.

    Sonny,
Mic' the bearing thickness and multiply it times two.
Mic' the crank and add those two numbers together.
Add the factory clearance number (.0005 - .00215")..
Then deduct .002 (.001" per 1" of diameter of crankshaft journal) for bearing crush (measured at the crown of the bearing surface).
    (Per Carillo: http://www.carrilloind.com/install.html )

    Hope the info helps,

The actual size for the big end of the rod is 2.1140/2.1135
