Can this coil spring (p/n 526135)be used on a 1957 Golden Hawk?

I think so. That is the standard duty Avanti spring. I suspect it could be considered the equivalent of somewhere between the standard duty and heavy duty Hawk spring. It will be the same diameter as the '57 GHawk spring. It won't be a variable rate spring as the Hawk probably has now. I don't have a dimension for the free length.

Free length is about 15.8 ins.

The length of the 'free' uncompressed, uninstalled spring, as it sits on the parts shelf.

To directly answer your original question. It will fit, but no. That is too light a spring for a steel bodied V-8 with extra weight on the engine too.
