  • Carb heating in custom OHV manifold??

I've been working on a two 1bb manifold for my ohv six. I have the runners welded to the plenum and will be working on the carburetor bases in the next few days.

I have some pictures of aftermarket manifolds that had tubing running through the manifold body to heat the carburetor bases, I guess for cold weather operation. Since I cannot predict how I will use the Lark or truck this manifold will go on. Is it worth my time to weld in some 3/4 inch tubing atop the plenum and under the carburetor bases to act as a carburetor warming device?

    Jeff T.

    I'll get pictures asap

Is the tube for heating or cooling? I've never figured it out. By the time the engine warms the water enough to heat the manifold, I would think that the engine block would heat the manifold directly. May be the water is there to keep the manifold from getting too hot. A mystery!

My wife's little 200CI Ford has water running the carburetor base plate and I always thought it was for cooling.

I was always under the impression it was used to prevent carburator icing.

Well, if Edmunds cast these tubes in the manifold body I guess that they were not concerned with vapor lock. I guess I will get some 3/4 inch tubing and run it under the flanks of the carbutetor bases. My Mother's 66 Mustang had one of those heating base units on her 200 cid six and it always started summer or winter.

This manifold may have a crosssection like an old fleet boat, round hull with rectangular/square top to hide the tubing that may make up for lack of heat riser or ???
