  • Heater motor fan removal/replace.

63' Lark type.....I've got the climatizer housing and fan on the bench. I want to replace the motor with NOS. The set screw is out of the fan boss. I've tried a couple of sharp raps with & w/o penetrant and heat. All I get is fan scrunching up against the climatizer housimng body. Any tricks before I bend the fan or housing...??

I know its' not the same, but when I redid my '55, I had to drill out the shaft. I put the motor in a vice and hand drilled it with successively bigger bits until it got to the flat, when the squirrel cage came loose.

Let it soak some more. Try a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF. Soak it a couple times over a day or two. Use your hammer with a center punch on the center of the shaft.

you know it just dawned on me....maybe I should be prying the cage off of the shaft. Isn't the motor fixed to the bottom half of the housing...?

You need to get the squirrel cage off to access the nuts that hold the motor to the housing. If you bend the cage it will be forever noisy.

...yes grasshopper.....<g>....just went out and the cage popped loose from overnight soaking..Caution: If you bang the head of the motor shaft 2 things will happen: 1) you will mushroom the head requiring a dremel type reduction to remove the cage, and 2) you just might bend the cage/housing enough to make for a noisy operation....To tell you the truth, I won't know til this afternoon.....that's why I have 3 cages in housings sitting around-for exactly this kind of expertise....HA !
