  • 51 Trunk Lid Question

Have a 51 2dr sedan and was wondering what years if any used the same trunklid as the 1951 model. Would a 1950 work?? what should I be on the look out for.
    Thanks

Some of the trunk lids are the same from a size standpoint but the differences from year to year are the holes in them for the trunk handle and lock mechanism, they therefore won't interchange. I believe we have one for a 51 we could bring to South Bend swap if you need a rust free one.

sedans & convertibles use one lid, & coupes use a different one.

Barry when you say coupes are different do you mean Starlight coupe or business coupe or both.

Would a 1950 lid work. I thought the latches were the same.

1950 rear trunk use different trunk handles then 1951. You can use a 1950 trunk but will have to use a 1950 trunk handle. You can not use 1951 trunk handle on 1950. 1951 trunk handle are way different.

I probably have a good sedan lid & will look for it between now & the meet. That reminds me that I need to bring a 53-55 C/K lid for another customer.
Several years ago I sold a trunk lid to an out of state buyer for his '50 Commander conv. I informed him that my part was in excellent condition, but was for a '51. Since he could not find a '50 in good cond anywhere, he sent me the money. As I was building the crate in which to ship it, I got a call from a local who was in the process of putting his '51 Champion conv. together following the application of a beautiful Sheba red base/clear paint job. He complained that the '51 handle would not work on the '50 trunk lid he had installed on his car from a solid '50 parts car he had, and wanted to know if I had the correct lid. I told him that if he had called a day later I could not help him, but that today he was in luck. He brought the perfect, newly painted & buffed '50 lid over and picked up the '51 lid and was delighted that there was no charge- just an even trade. I then shipped the '50 lid to my buyer who was surprised the receive it with such a nice paint job and needing no holes filled or modifications. It was a win-win trade that happened only due to perfect timing.
Happy Easter to all- HE is risen!

If you happen to have a left rear fender I would be intrested.
                    Thanks
