I just completed a gt dash restoration. The local sign shop had a simulated teak vinyl, enough for two dashes, for $5.00. looks great. they make computerized commercial and boat signs. I thought about veneer but ended up with vinyl.

Here's the post that N8 is referring too.

    http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...chTerms=Veneer,

When I did mine, I used macassar ebony veneer from a specially wood store (not cheap)which I laminated to a piece of arborite for stability. I felt the wood would expand at a different rate than the aluminum and would eventually delaminate. I built templates out of hardboard and then used my router to shape the final product. I then sprayed them with multiple coats of UV rated clear so that they would not yellow. It took me about a week to finish the project with the drying time and sanding to get the finish that I wanted.

If you're interested in the 64 Hawk templates I still have them.

BTW the plastic is way cheaper and probably way easier. The wood veneer cost me close to $200 for the entire car.

jimijim once sold the kits, and they were very nice. Many others I've seen peel away and look horrible.

JC Whitney sells a vinyl kit that works pretty well. It is for a PT Cruiser, and they run it on sale for around $20.00.

there have been a couple threads on this recently, and Jim Kranak used to sell pre-cut veneer pieces for just this application although I do not know if he still does
