    I know that jasper remanu chevy and ford motors question is there anyone doing this for Studebaker 289 motors and transmissions? There has to be somebody![8D]

    Thought of doing this myself. But after putting 2,450.00 into doing a 289 just for the machine work, (the engine was balanced and the block decked and line bored) I think you would be hard pressed to build one right and not have it setting for a while. Looks to me you would have around 3,000 to 3,600 by the time parts are added. Still may pay to have a few short blocks done up.

              Greetings, All,

              FWIW, I have my work done by a back-to-the-land auto machinist in the middle of nowhere who does great work at very reasonable prices. His low overhead means low prices for cleaning, line-boring, decking, boring, honing, grinding the crank and doing the heads, would be less than $1500. Naturally, parts, assembly and shipping are additional.

                I was looking at the pic's of your motor and I don't see any dow pins on the back of the engine. how is this motor attached and if automatic what is this trans call?

                  Yeah, the pins were left off by the last "rebuilder" who messed with it. That's one reason the transmission went south Look at this flex plate:



                  The trans is a FOM. I know the block is original and I think the trans is too, but I'm going to dial it in anyway.

                    I'm gonna be installing a 289 short block in my Transtar that Ken built for me about 2 years ago. I have a couple sets of reworked heads lying about, so I'll slap on a set of those and put in a fresh clutch as well.
                    Ken's approach to engine building frustrates me sometimes The guy's too damned meticulous!
                    More than once I've said "Aw **** Ken, it'll be just fine like that."
                    Ken'll give me the look and then he'll say something like "Yeah, but I can't put it back together like that."

                      Does Bill Cathcart do V-8's? I know his expertise is Champion engines. I do know that he stocks some V-8 parts.
