Throttle bellcrank - painted or not?

  • Throttle bellcrank - painted or not?

    Just finished degreasing a lot of engine accessories and wondered if the throttle bellcrank assembly is supposed to be painted or left bare? Mine looks like there's some remnants of black paint clinging to it, but that could be overspray. I also see what looks like some galvanizing, but a lot of that's gone too.

    I cleaned up the throttle bellcrank on my 1963 Hawk and it looked like it had been plated originally, so I had it zinc plated. I'm
    not 100% sure that is correct, but it sure looks good.

      I'm pretty sure you're right, it should have been zinc or silver cad plated originally, not painted.

        I agree with no paint on the bellcrank. Considering that overspray on the valve covers is considered normal, I'd expect to see some on the bellcrank also.

          If you want it to be factory original, it should have some overspray on it. Not clean, not fully painted. Cheers

            Eastwood's got a nice zinc coating in a spray bomb for coating gas tanks. I think that'll do the trick
