Question about rocker arm shafts.

With my 63 V8,does the flat spot on the shaft face the front of the engine on both sides ?

NO!!!!

The flat should be on your left as you face the engine from the side. So the drivers side is forward and the passenger side it is towards the rear.

If you do it wrong you will ruin the pushrods, the shaft and the rocker arms due to no oiling. I have known that for years but managed to do it wrong on one side of an engine recently. It was an expensive mistake! Won't ever do that again and didn't for more than 50 engines I rebuilt!

Thanks Dave,that is how the engine is put together.but for some reason I thought they both faced the front.
