  • Bullet connector diameter?

    [?]I am installing a nice complete set of used fog lights with bumper guards for my '55 Speedster. (Miscreant prior owner had removed and sold the originals.)

    My dash switch and wiring harness remain intact as far as the female receptacle attached to two white wires at the left front of the engine compartment..The wires and receptacle are fine, the connection is "hot" when the switch is turned on. I must reinvent the front harness to the lights.

    I'm assuming that there should be a male bullet connector to connect the lights to that receptacle. I've noticed that bullet connectors are available in a number of diameters... 0.195", 0.157", 0,180", etc. Any guidance on selecting these?

    Sorry, nope. Just buy a small box of assorted sizes. They come in handy over the years.

      The bullet connectors I've scavenged from my '55 are .157. All I've seen are the same diameter, can interchange anywhere on the harness. Hope this helps.

        Any time I've picked up bullet connectors at the local flaps I never specified a size; always got the correct ones.

            Yes, have used the parts store "bullet" connectors - They are OK. Also, installed new headlight wiring (higher powered lights caused the OEM switch and wiring to get VERY hot)and adapted trailer wiring (the heavier, 14 ga kind, not the common parts store 18 ga)with the sealed 2, 4 or 6 connector ends which mated right up to the original Stude' wiring at the front fender. Used open non-wired 4-terminal connector (could not find the gage and length needed), made a wiring harness (14 ga), tinned the connector terminal and the wire ends, and made very sure they were well soldered together - do not want any weak connections. Checked for resistance and for voltage drop at the connections - All works great. The 4-connector can be used as is (using only two of the four terminals or, as I did, cut down the 4-terminal to two and sealed the whole thing w/ liquid tape (after affixing and soldering the wires, of course). Works great (no more overheatinof cicuit) and it looks like OEM.

              0.157's were used in '63 - suspect that was the standard for Stude wiring.
