  • FOM transmission

I've recently purchased a 63 Avanti. Trans seems to be a little soft and the PO said that he used Dexron III. As far as I know it should be "F" or "FA" fluid. Dropping the pan will not empty all remaining fluid, what should I do, without taking the trans out of the car?

.There are two drain plugs on the torque converter .
Why 2? Because on is to let air in as oil drains out. if you have ever seen a hamster water bottle you know that it doesn't empty upside down through a small hole. however if you let air in to the top it would drain. Same principal here.
They are 7/16 hex and opposite each other. You can reach them through the sheet metal "tang" on the botton of the bellhousing.
Remove one and then bump the starter and remove the second.

I forgot to add it would be a good time to adjust the bands while the pan is off. I use B&M synthetic Trick Shift fluid. I also put a guage in the front pump and adjust the throttle pressure per the shop manual.
