  • HELP!!! '64 Wagonaire power tailgate wiring

I'm posting this for my brothers Ron and Mike (hotwheels63R2) who are next door beating their heads against a wall. Work is moving along on a VERY nice '64 Daytona Wagonaire, but in trying to troubleshoot the power tailgate there is a problem, and now we need some help~

Where on Earth do you find a wiring diagram for the power tailgate window [?]

All three of us have looked in every book we can think of to find one- but to no avail.

Has anyone got a readable one they can scan and email to Mike, or post here [?] [?] [?]

Knowing which wires go where would help with troubleshooting- BIG TIME.

Besides the wiring diagram, there are a few more letters containing other info on the electric tailgate, so I made a pdf of them. If you want one, just email me and I'll respond directly to you.

Is this a case where the wires were all disconnected? If not, one time my Wagonaire rear window worked fine from the dash switch, but not at the tail gate with the key. I finally figured out that the plastic tab on the switch that engaged the key mechanism was broken off and wasn't being activated when the key was turned. It is pretty flimsy.

This was a case where my Brothers were working on a customer's car two years ago.
It has since been sold and is long gone...

Thank you for trying to help, though.

I had a problem w/my '64 wagon tailgate window as well. It turned out to be the circuit breaker on the driver's side inner fender. Did you check that the motor works w/power? The wires connect to the motor via a plug that only connects 1 way. Does your '64 have a mercury "safety switch" that limits the ability to put the window down or shall I say out & on the road when the tailgate is down? Also have you checked the switch? Mine is located under the dash by the left knee. I had someone borrow my National Service Data book for '64. That had a wiring diagram fot the wagon, including the safety switch. Good luck from Rob in PA!

I guess you didn't get my message through the forum. So just send me an email at jdwain (at) comcast.net and I will send the pdf which you can print out. I don't think I can put a pdf on the forum, or at least I don't know how.
