I am doing a body off rebuild of a 54 Champion Coupe.
Of the available shop manuals, which would be the better for reassembly instructions?

Welcome to SDC and to the SDC Forum, you can join us at the top of these pages for a 1st. year discount, we'd be glad to have you if you have not joined yet, you will receive Turning Wheels Monthly Mag. award winning excellent Publication! [^]

There are no total assembly instructions (or restoration guide) published by Studebaker per Se, each individual unit has it's removal for repair and replacement covered in the Shop Manual, easy to understand, but written for Factory Trained Dealer Service Techs. The pictorial detail of parts assembly, is shown in the Chassis Parts Catalog and the Body Parts Catalog, pretty much like any make of car would be.

Easy way: buy the complete CD ROM Disc. with all three on it! Cheaper too! [^]
Print out pages you MUST have, for assembly from Parts Catalog, get em dirty and <s>trash em,</s> ahh, recycle them!

The Three books are also available, you'll need them all.

Another good book is the Operation Step and Time Guide. It looks very much like the shop manual and in some cases explains the step-by-step better than the shop manual. These are only available used as far as I know. They show up on ebay occasionally and generally sell for less than the shop manual.
I think '54 was the last year of the big book, and after that they published more of a digest version.
