Need an O/D Solenoid!

Now that I have the old o/d solenoid out, any advice on locating a new or rebuilt one (6 volt)? I'm hesitant to bid on a used one on eBay, not knowing for sure if it's any good. I know Randy Rundle at Fifth Avenue can rebuild my old one but he needs 6 to 8 weeks to do it. I'd like to be able to go out on the highway sooner than that!

Sometimes it is easier to find a Ford or Mopar one(anything with Borg Warner O/D)

Very carefully disassemble your solenoid. Take the screws out, take the cover off, and look for anything out of place. I found one that wouldn't work because the insulation on the very end was gone. I permatexed a piece of insulation off an electric wire and it's been working for two years. You might find it's just a stuck contact, or something.

Dennis, do you have contact information on Randy Rundle? I'm just now getting into the mechanics part of my 50 Champion. Will be taking it to my mechanic today, and I'm sure I will have time to get Randy to fix mine if the thing is shot. Just finding someone is part of the hangups we run into when it comes to getting things fixed.

Expanding on Tom B's suggestion, if you disassemble your OD solenoid also be on the lookout for corrosion on the points, and/or excessive transmission oil having leaked into the bottom of the solenoid due to a bad seal in the transmission body, where the plunger goes in. Either one will stop the solenoid from working, and both are easy fixes. The seal in question is a steel backed rubber affair about the size of a dime. Sometimes they are torn up, and sometimes missing all together. Also be sure that any drain in the bottom of the solenoid is clear.

It's been a few weeks now, but someone told us about a vendor that has rubber seals for our solenoids. Anyone remember where to get them?
