Topping off a Saginaw steering box - question

I need to add some lube to my steering gearbox. I have a '63 Lark with the Saginaw manual steering.

Shop manual says to use chassis lube to top off the box. I've chosen to use Mobil 1 (the red stuff!) synthetic for my chassis joints, but I've been told that it's incompatible with the old stuff, and will separate and run out if the two are mixed.

So, two questions I guess:
1) Is it true that synthetic chassis lube is incompatible with standard?
2) If so, what do I put in the box?

for a saginaw manual box? should be using heavy gear oil, either 80W90 or 90W140.

Clark - I have used the very same synthetic in my 63 Daytona's Saginaw box with no problems in steering or leakage.
