    Sorry Champ .. I HAD to do that, I know its an older post, but I did
    that picture for a Mustang forum I am on, and felt the need to add it

    Whenever I saw that in the YIM chatrooms my response was almost always, "Must be that rare go between model between the Camaro and the Cameo(the Chevy truck to everyone else), prior to the El Camino.

    I have Don's 2 1/4 SS pipes and quiet tone mufflers with the adapters for the R2 manifolds(in case I go to R3's). I like the burble from the exhaust as well as the very slight metallic chug when I'm cruising. Agree on the noise. Too noisy, particularly on long drives, and you won't be able to hear yourself or your passengers during or at the end of the drive, what with the temporary hearing loss and all. Of course that may not be a completely bad thing for some of us, lol.

    I am using Don's 2 1/4 inch SS and his quiet mufflers on my Daytona...which has a Harbit R-1-2 cam and I always get lots of compliments on how great and 'lumpy' it sounds, and you can still hear the radio most of the time..

    Too noisy is a pain on the highway as well..

    I thought I should tell the forum my perpective on the Silvertone exhaust which I purchase from Don Simmons a few months back. I started and finished installing his Stainless Steel Exhaust in just a few hours. I did this a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night. I was really impressed how easily this system installed. I took my Porter Cable sawzall to the existing exhaust and removed it in minutes. I was really happy how easily my Manifold nuts were removed mind you I had been spraying them with WD-40 for a couple of days.
    When I purchased the exhaust system Don asked me what kind of manifold I was using. I told him that I would be using headers on my new R2 engine. A few days later Don personally delivered the system to my door. Months had passed and we talked again at York. Since Don knew that I would be installing my R2 this summer he was kind enough to offer me the standard manifold lead pipes so that I could install the exhaust in my Hawk with the stock engine in it. Again Don delivered the lead out pipes to me!

    I've been driving my Hawk for about a week now and love the sound. I purchased the medium tone muffers and I have to say again they sound absolutely fantastic! Not too loud not too quite either. They have a great rumble when you get the urge to tromp on it. (often) Even the Guys at the local FLAPS love the sound of this car!

    The install went really quick starting at the manifold. I had to remove the emergency brake cable arm to successfully install the drivers side pipe and have to say the bends were perfect. The passenger side was even easier. All the connections for the pipes were done in the exact spot where the exhaust hangers support the pipes from. Don also supplied me with his 3" exhaust tip which I had to polish to a chrome finish. Wow did the shine up nice and those pipes stick out just far enough.

    I highly recommend this easy to install system to who ever is in the market for a new exhaust system!

    I would suggest going with the louder mufflers, you can always change
    them later if its too loud, or add resonators on the tailpipes. I plan
    on going with 2-1/2" for my Avanti R1 and the ported heads. If I can
    not find a reasonable mandrel bent option, I will be doing silvertone
    as well, but I was planning on Flowmaster mufflers, maybe Spintech. I
    want it to be loud - but not popping.

    Depending on your personal opinion, you might want a chambered one
    instead of a glasspacked one. I have the glasspacks on the Avanti and
    they are annoying. Karl sent me a video of his twin supercharged
    Avanti idling in the garage. He has Flowmasters.

    There's nothing quite like the visceral feel of a powerful engine that's got just the right muffler.[8D][] One can feel that throb of the motor[^] without being deafened by an obnoxiously loud exhaust note.[}][8D] Impressive is not always analogous to obnoxious. A lesson that many of our younger fellows could stand to learn.

    The 2 1/4 has it's own, deeper tone. I prefer the loud, but the quite is not all that quite either.

    If you really want the Mustang/Camero Guys to hear you it will have to be the loud ones. If your stereo is not loud enough get an amplifier!!![8D]

    Loud or Quite Tone Mufflers?

    I too am in the market for a new exhaust system and have decided to go with Don Simmons SS exhaust system. My new R2 engine should put out some horsepower and have been recommended to go with the 2 1/4". I am using the cast iron headers with my system also. Is anyone using the Silvertone Mufflers? I want a throaty exhaust but not too loud. When I drive out of the local cruise night I want the guys who are in love with their Mustangs/Camaros to know the Studebaker just left the parking lot but then again I like to hear Music too. What should I use Loud or quiet tone?
