  • Hawk Power Steering

    Hi all,

Just a couple of quick questions:

Ques 1: Any suggestions on retro fitting power steering on a '62 Hawk. I have located a Studebaker set up, but wondered if there was a better/easier way ?

Ques 2: I have a '53 Champion that has blown the seal on the Hill Holder trip shaft. I can't seem to locate an overhaul kit here in Australia, can anyone help ?

    Cheers

I put power steering on my hawk. If you go with the Stude system you'll need the power steering bell crank since it incorporates a third arm and the reach rod-pitman arm combination as well. Everything is pretty much a bolt on deal. Take my advice and replace the seals on the control valve before you put it on. The system will need to be operational to blow the seal loose on the cylinder, so don't screw everything on and then try it. I got the control valve seals from SASCO and I think they have the cylinder seals as well. Be very careful when replacing the seals on the control valve, it has very close tolerances and you don't want to get dirt into it.
