  • Colors for the 53

    Hi All,

We're slowly moving towards the colors on our 53 coupe project. My wife likes the combination of Shoshone red and Sandusky beige while I like the Maui blue and Nocturne Blue. Where can we get the paint formulas for all the above?

    Regards,

Try this link John, PPG could likely assist you.

I realize the link is for 1954 but they had no 1953 chart and these are the colors you and your wife have chosen.

Some of the colors on this website are incorrect, so know what you're buying first. When you look up early Porsche colors ( I am painting my '53 Commander 1960 Fjord Green ), the only green they list for 1960 is the (available for 1962-63-only ) Smyrna Green, which is wayyy lighter than Fjord Green.

              Hi Brad,

Thanks for the color list. Have you tried to replicate the colors from the color chip page?

              Regards,

                No, I haven't.
My own '53 is a single-tone. I had the paint jobber scan a spot on the firewall to match the Manchester Maroon and the inside glove box door to match the Loma Gray.

I sent this email to a fellow Studebaker owner today but wanted to share it with the forum.

Thanks for your input on colors. We had a lot of rust issues and ended up combining four bodies on our project. The cab is from a 1959 Silver Hawk, the trunk is from a 1956 Golden Hawk, the doors and front clip are from a 1953 Commander, and the roof is from a 1953 Champion coupe. Consequently we're not going to worry about the original colors. Our goal is to have this car be all Studebaker including an accurate paint match.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated and I hope to see your cars in person at the SDC meet in June.

                  Regards,
