  • Hawk Hood Question

I'm a proud new member of the Studebaker subculture having recently purchased a '60 Hawk. I have a zillion questions and will browse the 8500 posts here for gems but in the meantime can anyone tell me how the massive hood stays up. It seems that all the parts and springs are there but no way will they support the hood. Are they supposed to. Thanks in advance.

There should be a prop rod under there.

Prop rod should be based on the right radiator support baffle to the right underside of the hood. When secured the rod is layed across the radiator support to the left in front of the radiator. Bob Peterson probably has some from all the cars he has torn down. (candbstudebakers)

Just a hint. Make sure that your hood latch works properly. One of the worst things that can happen on a Hawk is to have the hood unlatch at speed. The hood with heavy grille (prior to 62 Hawks) will beat the you know what out of your roof.

Be sure to pull the hood out as you raise it or the corners will be bent against the cowl.
