Actually they only go where they need to, no farther.
Oil Pressure should not come from the block, but the left head, and it's the outer one on a STOCK Fram/Studebaker spin-on filter base, not the center one. [:0]
On a aftermarket filter like a Frantz Tissue paper filter probably not.
The return would have to go back into the crankcase, so the nearest unpressurized location is the side of the oil filler pipe.
