    Cylinder head porting paper

    I just thought I'd let everyone know what's happening on this porting paper I'm trying to do.

    I've currently got 22 pages of info and more to follow....
    I "think" I've got it to where it's fairly easy to understand.

    BUT...I'm kinda stuck on how to convey a few things in the harder to do areas.
    I basically write instructions (PART of what I do) for a living, and this has been a bit of a pain.
    I'll also admit...in being sorta stuck, I've been lax in TRYING to get something understandable on paper.

    A coupla people are willing to read over it all before I post it on the Racing Studebaker Board, to make sure most everyone can understand it and it doesn't drag on unnecessarily.
    I've just got to get on with it and finish the two or three sections that are left.

    Just soes ya nose....

        I have a similar problem. I can go a little bit much into detail and the technical aspects, and many a time leave people scratching their heads. Don't worry I find it a benefit than a disability though . What I would do is make an analogy out of it. Relate it to something that many people can easily see in the world around them. Remember the fat man and the hallway bit on the racing forum when I was describing performance of a port? Use something like that after you provide the description of some of the harder areas. It's also a great strategy when conveying harder to understand information to middle school kids as well [)].

          Mike, perhaps on the more technical items you can have a short video on you tube that explains it more clearly & when one gets to that item, refer to you tube # such&such to make sure any question is clear.

            Mike, as an archaeologist, a large part of what I do is write and edit technical papers and reports. I know, it's about archaeology, not head porting, but I have been a gear head all my life and have ported a quite few heads over the last 40-some-odd years. I would be glad to read and comment.

              Much of the techinicial work is where a camera can't get. At least not a normal camera. But, I don't have a video camrea, nor do any of my friends.
              It is a good idea though.

              One of the two guys has already read much of it for techinical content (has done his own porting). The second round is going to his wife for writing content.
              Thanks for the offer though.

                Your Welcome, Mike. Most people don't realize the amount of work and time that goes into producing a good technical article. Sounds like you have it handled, though. Good luck.

                  I have followed your threads, both here and in the racing forum, with alot of interest. I have been building engines for what seems like most of my life and it never ceases to amaze me that I am still learning new things after all of these years.

                    Perhaps you should send your paper to Bob Palma and Dwain Grindinger for comment. They were very helpful to me recently when I made inquiries.
