circuit breaker mounting question

I'm putting in new headlight and wiper CBs as part of the new wiring harness. Today's breakers aren't quite the same form factor as the old ones - the cases have screw-mount ears that won't fit in Stude's nifty little breaker holders

So, stupid question: is it OK to use some double-stick foam tape to keep the breakers where they need to be? Or does the case need to be grounded to do its job?

(BTW, I finally found the breaker specs in the manuals. 20 amp for the lights, 5 amp for the wipers. PO had 15s in both slots.)

Are the cases the same as the old ones but just have a crossbar spot welded to the bottom of the can ? I got some like that and just carefully drilled through the spot weld on the bar (but not through into the can) so the bar would come off. They were identical to the old ones otherwise.

Unlikely the cases need to be grounded unless they are electronic and I have not heard of any like that in the aftermarket.

If you post a part number, I could check it out.

Not sure what year or model you have.I recently bought a 20 amp c.b for my Avanti it did not have any
kind of cross bar & it fit in the original fuse panel. I bought it at NAPA.

Most parts houses have what is called a buyers guide with illustrations. Always a good way to get what you want when you encounter a young counter man that asks "whats it for" And yes the breakers without a bracket are still available.

Most of the bigger parts houses have circuit breakers with either mounting configuration. The counter people will try to sell you what they have in stock, but they can order what you need. Have the counter guy get out the parts book and show them what you want. Bud

You're right - they are still available. Just have to know where to look!

I found a great source for breakers and other auto electrical bits: http://www.wiringproducts.com. Good prices, I ordered my two breakers and have them coming by Priority Mail for under $11.
