  • symptoms of bad voltage regulator

I have 6 volt system that isn't charging. I took the generator to a local automotive electric shop and had it tested. They said it was good. I assume that the voltage regulator is the issue, but I would like to be sure.

When the car idles, the gauge needle sits on the line in the middle of the gauge. Pressing the gas increases engine speed but does nothing with the gauge. turning on the blinkers causes the gauge to go a bit to the left. Turning on the lights causes a huge swing to the left. So, the gauge indicates the battery isn't charging. The shop says the generator is good.

    Voltage regulator or other ideas?

Look for another auto electric shop. Mine requires that I bring in the regulator, too.
