  • Radio Antenna 51 Champion

I have looked through all of the recent posts and I'll be darned if I can find any mention of where the cable gets routed from under the fender to inside the passenger compartment. Do I have to drill a hole? It came with a radio but I took the antenna off for painting and now I can't figure out where it goes? Anybody know? And while you're at it is there a source for those two long mounting bolts for the radio itself?

The source for the long screws are hard to find. Good luck. Your cable is not that hard to connect. Just put your antenna in and you should figure out how the routing of the cabel. The cable does not pass towards the passenger side.

First off, a '47-'52 Studebaker Antenna does NOT go through the fender, so if your antenna hole is not drilled through the left front cowl and into the drivers' door post to be accessed behind the left kick panel, you will have a problem installing a Studebaker Antenna.

Of course if you are installing an aftermarket Antenna and do not want original, any routing that gets to the radio will work.

I have had Studebakers that have the antenna on the Drivers side and on the passenger side. The best I can determine is that the drivers side was mounted at the factory and the passenger side was dealer installed.

Is this correct? Or is ther no rhyme or reason?

Factory installation was through the driver's side cowl as Rich said. Any other location would be aftermarket or negligent dealer installed.
Dave Mottle has the templates and instructions for a correct install.

Well mine was installed at the back top of the passenger side fender when I got it so I left it alone. I guess I shoulda put it on the cowl but it's too late now! I'm trying to get it ready for the Summit Racing show in Tallmadge OH (formerly Winks) Aug 29th

Both my 51 Studes had the antenna mounted on the driver's side cowl so I guess they were done at the factory.

Probably but, a proper dealer install would use the factory template. Also, if it is internally controlled it can be done no other way.

My '53 had an antenna installed on the rt front fender, forward of the normal place. The wire was snaked through the back of the fender opening, into the inside of the cabin behind the firewall. There were no drilled holes for it, it just wandered around till it found a way in.

Hope to see you at Summit.
