Champion painting

I am ready to paint my 51 Champion sedan and would like to know if the trunk floor and sides should be body color? There was not much left of the floor but it looked like it had undercoating on the floor that extended all the way up past the rear seat, and seemed that the trunk area was painted black. But the question is: how did it come from the factory? Thanks for any ideas.

Apparently, the inside of the trunk was sprayed at the factory with that tarry undercoating. Here's what the trunk of my 1950 Champion looks like. There would also be a mat and a tarpaper underpad in the trunk, of course.

My 53 coupe is sprayed just like this in the trunk and also in the floors.
The 53 4 door I have is not. Can anyone tell us about how the factory did this?
