  • Carpet Confusion - 54 Commander Coupe

    Interior Experts,

I am quickly finishing up my project car, basically bolting on chrome and some interior work. I have been sourcing replacement carpet, looking to get the best possible OEM look. I have secured pricing from two or three places with prices ranging from $220 to $350, before freight and taxes.

My confusion is what am I missing in the understanding the wide difference in pricing. I would certainly like to learn from your mistakes or capitalize on your expertise. What should I be looking for?

The Deluxe Commander Coupes had rubber floor mats front and rear. Only the Regal Commander Coupes had carpet front and rear. If yours is a Deluxe, it will be next to impossible to find the rubber mats.

OEM carpets were ribbed mohair with horsehair woven throughout. I would guess only Phantom would make them, but I could be wrong.

        Dick,

My Coupe has the Regal Trim package, and the old carpet while faded appears to be some kind of loop cut in rows - really nappy looking. I received some samples from a couple providers and the carpet samples don't look anything like mine.

I have gone this far and trying to do everything right and just don't want to get into short cuts.
