  • 52,51 Champion heater/defroster

Is the heater and defroster system on the 52 Champion the same as
the 51 champion? Is their an aftermaket system available? It is
cold in Maryland this time of year.
    Thanks, Andy

    Exactly the same!

There WERE aftermarket heaters available... in the 50s and 60s.[:I] Now you'll have to scrounge to find such. Probably easier to find factory Climatizer parts than aftermarket.[^]

Its usualy colder than it has been in Maryland! I would look on E/bay, you might find a heater there. I'm not sure but you might find thar the heater as far back as 1947 might fit? I just looked in my body parts catalog 47-50 and the 47-48 are the same 49 is different and 50 is also different so maybe they won't interchange. Good luck in your hunt for a heater! If your goimg to drive your Stude in Md. in the Winter your going to need a heater! What part of Md. do you live? BTW You might check with some of the Studebaker Vendors for a heater or if your not worried about keeping your Stude original you might check with local auto parts stores.

I would think that the 1950 and 1952 Champ heaters would be nearly the same as the bodies were almost identical. If you are getting one from a parts car don't forget to get all the parts such as the control valve under the dash(passenger side), the sheet metal pan under the floor, the blower unit, etc. also get the defroster unit and related under dash parts, as it was a seperate unit from the underseat heater. There was vendor at the SASCO swap meet last May that had a NOS heater installation kit for 1950 or 51 for sale. As I recall it hadn't been sold by the last day of the meet. The vendor was located in small room next to Studebakers of Wisconson. Perhaps someone from the forum can recall the name.
