  • Oil Pressure Line

My car has a metal oil pressure line, with a plastic coating, from the block to the guage. I know there is supposed to be a flex line
coming out of the block,(to allow for some movement) but somewhere along the line this was changed. My question is, does this present a problem? I do have a new flex line but am lacking the connecting hard piece that goes to the guage; vendors don't have it.

Years ago when accessory guages were installed (Stewart-Warner,Hawk, ect) you were given enough copper tubing so you could coil the tubing 2 or 3 times so as to allow any movement without creating a weakness & crack the line. If you dont want to do that, then just run the flex line you have & connect it to the existing line with either a flare or compression fitting. You may have to use an adapter fitting also but those things are available easily.

I'd want to have the factory flexible hose at the block for peace of mind. Oil pressure will disappear real fast if the line breaks. I think you should be able to find whatever fittings you need at the parts store.

Most parts stores can't help as the threaded connectors used now don't work with the Stude threads... We need to find a Stude vendor for the right stuff. I was going to have some hoses made up a few years back and got run out of every place I went into as they had the hose but couldn't match the couplings.

Thanks what I'm afraid of, cutting that line and then not finding the correct fitings to get it back together; sorta of like trying to find couplings to mate 5/16" fuel lines to my new Carb with 3/8" fitings.

As you can see, the oil line on my car does have sort of a loop which "should" help asborb some vibration/movement. However, I would like to do it right. BTW, does anyone know the size of this steel oil line?

          Thanks,
