  • external-internal tooth lock washer when do you

I can see on my Studebakers where one would use an external tooth lock washer or an internal. Why would you want the difference ???.....Brad

    Brad,

Here is a site I had bookmarked that shows a lot of different toothed lockwashers with brief descriptions of the use(s):
    http://www.wclco.com/Lock_Washers/To...ck_Washers.php

Now, why Studebaker engineers decided to use certain lockwashers in certain places, that I can't tell you<G>.

Good info- but was surprised that they didn't list the split-ring lock washer, by far the most common... whaa?[:0]

That page was only toothed lock washers. Split lock (technically helical spring) washers are on this page:

I went to "home" ( complete listing of washers at "home" ) and bookmarked the company, printed info on both types of washers and put the info in my parts manual....Brad

I have worked on many cars & diesel trucks with equipment mounted
on the back.I always replaced the lock washers with same type
                i removed.When i read the post i did learn something.It goes
to prove an old dog can learn new tricks.Thank You
