In my 55 (DG250M) I use Dexron III- Mercon. No issues in 18000 miles.

Same for the DG200 in my '51. Modern DexronIII is just plain better than the original 10W oil recommended when those transmissions were new.
Lubrication technology improves. I wouldn't go for the super synthetics. It's just not worth it and may even create some issues.

55 Prez, from the rear your car has my paint scheme, a white. What is the other color. I'm assuming it is two tone. I find the non Studebaker people do like the front of our '55s. It seems the Studebaker folks like the earlier grills, at least from my experience. I like all of the grills in that series 52 to 55.

Nels, I assume you know this, but for others reading this, drain both the transmission case and the torque converter. Follow factory instructions (see "Search") for refill.

Curt,
The paint is Shasta White over Saginaw Green. Here's a few pics.

I have used type F in my Landcruiser for the last 18 or so years. I drive it pretty infrequently and it does leak. This topic has been covered many times in the Turning Wheels "co-operator" but if you read all the articles you will find some contradictions from some very knowledgeable people. So far mine still shifts with the type F. I just hope it makes it for the 60 miles my Wife will drive tomorrow.
