Thanks JDP, I needed that. Was hoping for a year and model if that is possible. Don't want much do I.

I believe the engine was built October 7,1963, an R-1 that was destined for either a Lark or Hawk. Studebaker changed its engine numbering from individual numbers in sequence to a block of numbers for a particular engine series for that day. From what they had already built, the line was given what the production order called for, so it was possible for as John said, if they had built 12 R-1 engines for Larks & Hawks that day, then they were put into cars as needed. Now if you have a 64 Lark or Hawk that this engine is in, a copy of the production order from the Studebaker National Museum can be obtained & verify if it is the original engine.

        60 Lark convertible
        61 Champ
        62 Daytona convertible
        63 G.T. R-2,4 speed
        63 Avanti (2)
        66 Daytona Sport Sedan
        59 Lark wagon, now V-8, H.D. auto!
        60 Lark convertible V-8 auto
        61 Champ 1/2 ton 4 speed
        62 Champ 3/4 ton 5 speed o/drive
        62 Champ 3/4 ton auto
        62 Daytona convertible V-8 4 speed & 62 Cruiser, auto.
        63 G.T. Hawk R-2,4 speed
        63 Avanti (2) R-1 auto
        64 Zip Van
        66 Daytona Sport Sedan(327)V-8 4 speed
        66 Cruiser V-8 auto

Thanks Warren. No car, only the engine, thinking about finding a Lark of the right vintage to put it in.

Sorry, I assumed you recognized the 64 date and numbering system. You can pick any 64 Lark Hawk if you like, but it really makes no difference that I can think of unless you find a R1 car built that day, missing a engine.

I can list all the cars build with that engine number if you like.

The following are all the cars built with JTK307.

As you can see by their Serial #, Eng # Transmission, Model, and color of car, you may be able to narrow it down by the engines transmission (auto flex plate, or flywheel), or possibly AC (airconditioning brackets/heater hose inlet).
If a previous owner knew color of the car, disc brakes, or other info you might be able to peg it and get the production order if you are planning to do a clone car.
The engine may not have been made and installed on same day, so the car production order may list different day.
The owners of any cars below still existing, would also probably enjoy having that engine.

We have a couple cars in our collection with same original matching JT #'s, so even if switched they would be Numbers Matching.

Don't be sorry JDP. Appreciate every response. Looks like I will look for a solid 64 2dr post car.

                    Thanks, James B.
I find it interesting that all of the cars were sedans with the two exceptions being one hardtop and one Hawk. I would have thought that sedans with R engines would have been the exception. Perhaps just on that day.
