  • Stupid Generator Question

    Hello,

It has been a long time since I have worked on my 1961 Lark and I was wondering what wire goes where. The generator has a bigger post and a smaller post. The shop manual shows that the field and armature go on each one fro the voltage regulator. The question is, which one goes where (field to bigger post armature to smaller post vise versa). The connectors on the wires happen to be the same size (eliminating the possibility of determining the big post connector and small post connector).[)] If by some chance these two wires were on backwards will this cause massive amounts of damage to the rest of the system (ie burnups, fires, explosions)?[)]

Sorry for the series of stupid questions but I figured it has been awhile since all of you had a good laugh.

Those wires connect to the corresponding terminals on your regulator. You can use a simple continuity check to determine which ones go where.

Armature post is the bigger one; field is smaller.
