My Dad's 52 champion's motor was running great, and when he backed down the driveway he heard a clunk at which time the motor stopped. It would not turn over by turning the fan or by trying to push start it. He took off the head to see if there was a busted piston or something, but everything was in order. He removed the starter and the motor became free again. Does anyone know what would cause the stater to jam the motor like that? Does anyone know of someone else who had this happened?

Actually it happened to me with the Ute just the other day. I believe my big foot hit the floor starter button when I depressed the clutch with the engine running. Maybe your Dad did the same.
I was able to free mine by putting it in second gear, having Gord push the car backwards, and popping the clutch.

I had that happen a few years ago in a 2R5 that I had. It would not turn over at all, and when I tried to start it on compression going down a small hill, it locked up the rear tires!
I had to have it towed home (with 2 young daughters aboard), and when I started investigating, I found it had a broken starter drive-easy fix.
