  • Cobra Brake brackets first article set from CNC

Edit per new picture location : 12/1/08

I got the first article set of brackets from the CNC machinist last week, I
removed some material, and decided on a name/logo/position. I have
considered black anodize, but thats still in the air right now. I have to put
them on the Avanti and confirm fitment, and I can give the green light for
the CNC guy to make the remaining 10 sets. The logo will be engraved
into the leading edge flat of the bracket, which can be seen with the wheel
    turned to full lock.

I will add to this thread the install of the first article set, when I get to it. I
think they came out very nice :

Thanks for the positive feedback guys ....

I think its worth hitting on a few things brought up on the Racing
Studebakers forum. The calipers I had on the Avanti originally were
single piston GT ones, & fit inside a 15 inch wheel. Unfortunately,
offsets/wheel cross sections have changed and the GT caliper (& the
Cobra) sit out further toward the wheel then the Stude did. Even thou
the diameter of the wheel will clear, I TRIED (and posted the info &
included in my Avanti magazine article) the stock Stude wheel, and it
will not clear the caliper. Regardless of which (GT or Cobra) setup
is used, the wheels WILL have to be changed. If the GT setup is used,
& and a 2 piston caliper is wanted, the 03/04 GT uses a PBR 2 piston
caliper for the smaller 11 inch rotor. As previously mentioned, this
should fit my bracket, though its not confirmed since I dont have one
laying around. Any Baer, Wilwood, etc setup should also fit my bracket
(though not confirmed). If any of you want to try these - contact me.
The setup just mimics the factory 94-04 SN95 Mustang caliper mount to
hub relationship. It then requires that you use wheels designed for
94- 04 Fords (but still clear the Stude suspension), way back in the
first article it was stated that Crown Victoria wheels are steel and
15". These will fit the GT setup. If someone wants the cheaper single
piston GT caliper, then the half circle cutout is required, & the CNC
guy is setup to modify them accordingly.

I'm open to suggestions, constructive critizism, & creative feedback.
Those on the current list will give the "best" feedback, as they are
actually mounting them on their cars. This will help me to find out
how close Stude kept their tolerances.

No official price has been posted. Also, keep in mind guys, this setup
will fit ALL Studebaker front suspensions from 1952 to 1966.

Gotcha, are you receiving the update emails? I hope you are on the
current list - I dont want to forget anyone![:I]
