  • Broken side glass and non starting

So, I took the Lark for a drive around the block yesterday. It died by the neighbors house and will only run if I keep my foot on the gas. Anyway, rolling up the window, I somehow managed to shatter the window. Any idea on a cost of a new side window for a 61 Lark 4 door?

Which door & is your car a regular 4 door or a Cruiser? Perhaps someone near you has one. If your not sure, just post the body plate information on the right side of the cowl, under the hood. You may also call an auto glass shop, preferably one thats been around for a while. They should have a pattern & cut one out for you & install it.

Front drivers side, Body Type 4S, VIN, 61VO747. I live between Chicago and South Bend, so for all you Hoosiers, if your close and have a window, let me know.

Question: are Stude side windows on the non Avanti models flat glass?

Why I wonder is starting ca. 1965; curved glass was starting to be phased in.

Avanti's were the only Studebakers made with curved side glass. This gave the Avanti the distinction of not having any panel on the exterior flat, including the glass. I'm not sure who started using curved side glass, but I tend to think it was on the 61 Lincoln Continental. AMC used it on their redo of the Classic/Ambassador series in 63 & advertised it heavily as creating more shoulder room.
