  • Dipstick tube, '64 259

Mine is bent as is the dipstick. I have a new dipstick, but when attempting to order a dipstick tube via SASCO or SI, I'm getting conflicting info. SI's catalog (2006; latest one I have) lists part no. 1548310 as applicable for '59-'64 V8's; however, SASCO's website only lists this part no. as applicable for '59-'62 V8's. SI's website shows nothing available when I key in part no. 1548310.

Doesn't it seem like a '62 259 dipstick tube would be the same as a '64? Ideas anybody?

    Thanks,

Bill: The problem you are having stems from the fact that the entire dipstick tube is made up of two pieces; an upper piece with a bracket that goes under the head bolt, and a lower piece that fastens to the oil pan.

The lower piece, #533220, is common to all 1959-1964 V-8s.

However, the upper piece, which inserts into the lower piece, was changed for 1963/1964.

The upper piece for 1959-1962 is #1548310.

The upper piece for 1963-1964 is #1558677.

This should help your hunt. BP

We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

Bob, what's the difference between the early and late upper tubes?

Thanks Bob. I am pretty sure I tried both SASCO's and SI's online catalog for 1558677 and 533220 last night, to no avail. But I was half-asleep when I tried! I'll try again after I get to Harrisburg with work! Saw those parts nos. in the Chassis Parts Catalog.

Neither SASCO nor SI have part nos. 533220 or 1558677 available per their online parts lookup. Guess they're not 'big sale' parts!
