  • 56 hawk vent window

when taking out the vent window I see you take the three screws out but how do you undo the post that runs inside the door? is that the nut that you can feel when you stick your fingers upside the ashtray hole? if it is is it a half inch bolt.

Once you pull the door panel you will find the vent window held on by those three screws/bolts, plus down below half way down the door there is a bracket that also attaches to the vent window. The places that hold the vent window are also the adjustments to make the window tilt in or out to make the flippers work properly. Do you have a Body Parts Book? A Service Manual? The body parts book has a great isometric drawing of the whole assembly.

Don't forget there is one screw just under the vent window that has to be removed.

Are we talking C-body or K-body? this is one of those times where the two are different.

In any case, no, don't remove that big nut (unless you already have the vent window out and are trying to repair something wrong with it.) down that path lies madness.
