    That casting number is for a 170 engine that was used from 1950 through 1954 in both cars and trucks. The stamped number is a better identifier.

    You need to provide the engine serial #, which on a flathead 6 will be stamped here:

    engine identification help

    I am still trying to identify this flat head 6 cyl. There is a casting number on the side of the block # 524807-11 I have several pictures that I am trying to include but haven't figured out how yet. Anybody got any ideas on what this engine is?
