  • '51 Auto Tranny leak

The DG 3-band in my'51 Commander was "rebuilt" back in the mid-80s, according to the reciepts that came with the car, and app. only has about 3000 mi. on it. The problem is, after it sits for several weeks, it begins leaking, and really makes a puddle. Now if I drive it, it is fine for quite a while, hardly any drips at all. Is something leaking down gradually? I've never worked on any of these units, so they are kind of a mystery to me.

    Any ideas[?]

On a lot of Stude transmissions the fluid will sypfone from the convertor into the transmission when they sit for several weeks consequently overfilling it and leaking out. Nothing you can really do about it except start the car reglarly.
